Start with SOS

S is three short beeps: dot dot dot. O is three long ones: dash dash dash. So SOS is ··· −−− ···. Try it on the SOS page, then send it with a torch or by tapping on the table.

Write your name

Type your name in the translator and press Play to hear it. Press Light to make the whole screen flash it, then save it as a card or a bracelet pattern.

Games to play

• Secret notes: write a message in dots and dashes and swap it with a friend to decode.
• Flashlight messages: at night, flash short and long signals to each other across a room or garden.
• Knock on the wall: short knocks for dots, a knock and a scrape for dashes. Or try the simpler tap code.
• Listening race: play a letter in the listening quiz and see who names it first.
